The Model 2065 suspension lamp, designed in 1950, showcases an innovative and experimental approach to lighting design. At the time, glass was the predominant material in the lighting industry. However, with the introduction of methacrylate in 1949–50, a new polymer plastic significantly stronger and lighter than glass, the designer embarked on experiments that led to the creation of the Model 2065. Over the following years, the designer continued to work with various compositions, dimensions, and color variants of this design.
The Model 2065 consists of a diffuser crafted from two joined opalescent saucers, gracefully suspended from the ceiling by a black-painted aluminum canopy. The elliptical design and the inherent lightness of its materials contribute to the luminaire’s seemingly weightless aesthetic.
