A plug-in wall lamp is the simplest way to get wall-mounted light without opening a wall or hiring an electrician. The MiniHouzz Adjustable Arm Plug-In Wall Lamp takes that convenience one step further: a 360° rotatable arm and an adjustable shade let you aim light exactly where you need it, whether that is a book at bedtime or the arm of a sofa. It plugs into a standard outlet through a 59.1″ (150.1 cm) cord with an inline on/off push button, so the only installation decision you have to make is where to hang it.
This guide covers what the lamp is made of, how the two sizes differ, where to mount it, and which bulb to choose — with the specification details you need before buying.
What the lamp is, and who it suits
The fixture is a wall-mounted reading light in metal, offered in black and gold finishes for both the body and the shade. Because the arm rotates a full 360° and the shade tilts, one lamp can serve two purposes in the same spot: throw light down onto a page, or angle it outward for softer ambient glow. The inline switch sits on the cord, so you can turn it off from bed or from a chair without reaching for the fixture.
It is a good fit if you:
- Rent and cannot add a hardwired junction box to a wall.
- Want bedside light without giving up nightstand surface to a table lamp.
- Need focused light over a reading chair, desk nook or sofa corner.
- Are furnishing a room where outlets sit low on the wall and a floor lamp would crowd the space.
It is not the right choice for a bathroom, covered porch or anywhere moisture is present — the rating is IP 20, damp-rated but not waterproof, and the lamp is intended for indoor use only.
Design and materials
The body and shade are metal, which gives the arm enough rigidity to hold a position once you set it. Two finishes are available — black and gold — and they read very differently in a room:
- Black disappears against dark paint and dark wood, and looks intentional against pale plaster. It is the safer choice for a bedroom where you want the light to be noticed, not the hardware.
- Gold works as a small piece of jewelry on the wall. It pairs naturally with brass cabinet pulls, warm wood tones and cream or sage walls; against cool grey it adds contrast.
Both finishes use the same metal construction and the same swivel mechanism, so the choice is purely visual. The shade is adjustable independently of the arm, which is what makes the lamp usable as both a task light and a soft wash of light on the wall behind it.
Model A vs Model B: which size to choose
Two sizes are offered, and the difference is more than cosmetic — it changes how far the light reaches and how much wall the fixture occupies.
| Model | Dimensions | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Model A | L 42 cm x H 40 cm / L 16.5″ x H 15.7″ | Bedside reading, larger reading chairs, rooms where the lamp can be a visible design element |
| Model B | L 37 cm x H 15 cm / L 14.6″ x H 5.9″ | Tighter wall space, lower ceilings, hallways or paired lamps flanking a bed or artwork |
Model A’s taller profile gives the arm more presence and a slightly broader spread of light. Model B keeps a low silhouette, which matters if you are mounting above a headboard that already sits high, or if the lamp will hang near a shelf. As a rule of thumb, measure the clear wall space you have before ordering: Model A needs roughly 16.5 inches of horizontal room, Model B about 14.6 inches, and both need a few inches of breathing room so the arm can swing without hitting a frame or a curtain.
Where to mount it: heights, reach and cord routing
Because the lamp plugs in rather than hardwires, placement is a two-part decision: the height that feels right for the task, and a route for the cord to the nearest outlet. The cord is 59.1″ (150.1 cm) long, so the outlet should be within roughly five feet of the fixture along the path you are willing to see the cord take.
Beside a bed
A common starting point is to mount the lamp so the shade sits a few inches above the top of the mattress, roughly level with the shoulder of someone sitting up to read. That usually means the wall plate lands somewhere between 48 and 56 inches from the floor depending on mattress height — measure your own bed rather than copying a number, since pillow-top mattresses and thick headboards change the math considerably. Keep the lamp at least a few inches out from the headboard edge so the arm can rotate freely.
Over a reading chair or sofa
Mount it slightly behind and to one side of the seat, with the shade able to swing over the reader’s shoulder rather than directly in front of the face. A height around 50 to 58 inches from the floor works for most lounge chairs; if the chair has a high back, go higher so the shade clears it when rotated.
Desk or console nook
For task lighting, the shade should sit just above eye level when you are seated, angled down toward the work surface. A wall lamp in this position frees the desk of a base and arm, which is useful in a small home office. Model B’s shallower height is often the better fit under a wall shelf.
Cord routing matters as much as height. Running the cord straight down to a baseboard outlet and securing it with adhesive clips gives the cleanest result; looping it loosely behind a nightstand is fine but will be visible. Avoid running it across a doorway, under a rug edge where it can be pinched, or anywhere it could be pulled.
Bulbs, brightness and color temperature
The lamp takes an LED bulb or an Edison bulb on an E26 or E27 base, and works on AC 110–240V. It ships without a bulb, so the bulb you choose determines the character of the light.
- Color temperature: 2700K for a warm, hotel-like bedside glow; 3000K if you want warmth with a little more clarity for reading; 4000K only where the lamp is doing genuine task work and color accuracy matters.
- Brightness: roughly 450–600 lumens is comfortable for bedside reading at close range. For a desk or a large reading chair, 700–800 lumens gives more headroom.
- Beam: a bulb with a narrower beam concentrates light on the page and keeps the rest of the room dark — useful if one person reads while the other sleeps.
- Edison-style bulbs look best when the shade is angled so the filament is visible, but they are typically dimmer and warmer; treat them as atmosphere rather than task light.
Note that the inline control is an on/off push button, not a dimmer. If you want adjustable brightness, the practical route is a smart bulb controlled from your phone rather than a dimmable bulb, which will only switch on and off at full output with this switch.
Plug-in vs hardwired wall lamps
| Plug-in wall lamp | Hardwired wall sconce | |
|---|---|---|
| Installation | Mount to the wall and plug in; no junction box | Requires a wall box, wiring and typically an electrician |
| Rental friendly | Yes — removable with minimal wall repair | No |
| Placement flexibility | Limited to reach of the 59.1″ cord | Limited to where wiring exists |
| Cord visibility | Cord must be routed and clipped | Concealed in the wall |
| Switching | Inline on/off switch on the cord | Wall switch or pull chain |
If the outlet is close and you are willing to manage a cord, the plug-in version wins on effort and reversibility. If the wall is open anyway, or the outlet is on the opposite side of the room, hardwiring is the cleaner long-term answer.

Styling checklist before you order
- Measure the wall space you have and pick Model A or Model B accordingly.
- Confirm the distance from your intended mounting point to the nearest outlet — the cord is 59.1″.
- Decide the task: bedside reading, chair-side ambient, or desk task. That sets your mounting height.
- Choose the finish against your existing metals. Black is neutral; gold reads warm and wants company.
- Buy the bulb separately: E26/E27, 2700–3000K, roughly 450–800 lumens depending on use.
- Plan the cord route and pick up adhesive clips if the run is visible.
